Southside Heritage Group is putting together an exhibition of events on the history of the school later this year at Nelson Hall Community Centre in Spittalfield Crescent. It is over thirty five years since the school closed and we are keen to develop archives on the school’s history.

If you would like to get involved and share your photographs etc, then contact Ross Greig, Project Worker, Nelson Hall Community Centre, 5 Spittalfield Crescent Edinburgh EH8 9QZ. Tel: 0131 667 8838. E-mail: ross.greig@ea.edin.sch.uk

The legacy of Thomas Nelson junior built the hall in 1913 to be used as a place "to which persons of the working class and others can go to sit, read, write, converse and otherwise occupy themselves". With that in mind, the hall has been returned to community use as part of The City of Edinburgh Council's Community Learning and Development section.

Rooms

• The main hall is about 15m by 12m and ideal for exercise classes or larger groups. If you are thinking of starting a class in the area, why not give us a call?
• The meeting room can be booked for morning for local businesses, surgeries or groups.
• The Gray Room upstairs is available for hire, mostly in the afternoons, and is suitable for a wide range of adult classes. The South Side Museum is located in the Gray Room and displays artefacts from the South Side's industrial past, school mementoes and old local photographs.

The centre is run in conjunction with South Side Community Centre by the South Side Community Centre Association Management Committee and they approve all lets at their monthly meetings.

Initial enquiries should be made to Keith Smith on 0131 667 8838 or email: pending-keith.smith@ea.edin.sch.uk
